They are human beings who can change shape, usually taking the form of another living being (person or animal). In general the term is used to designate persons or creatures that can change shape at will, most often referring to people who can take the form of other people or animal.

A shifter can copy the body of another animal and become an exact copy of that animal. The animal does not have to be of a similar size to which you want to change. The shifter can be freely changed in appearance. However, they can not completely change his human appearance to that of an existing person. You can change loose as the color of hair, eyes, height ... but never get to do a complete change features.

The power of a shifter is so broad that need constant training, so to get change more traits at once must have absolute control of power. It may be the case shifter who do not know they are shapeshifters who ignore their power and when they try to implement it do not get it at first. Requires constant training and often fails to change if you do not know.

People who get complete control and can change almost all the features at once, looking almost like a new person, called skinchangers. They are able to transform into any animal on earth, including humans, although they never achieved completely resemble an existing person, especially if known.

The shifter also easier to change when they have a model that copy, so they usually live with animals that can be changed freely. Greater control to start making changes without a model is needed.

All shifters are by birth. There is no conversion possible shifters. This may be because their direct blood relatives (parents or grandparents) have been, or has some distant ancestor who may have provided the gene that has developed in that person no apparent reason. With a family is shapeshifters, it may be the case you have children, grandchildren or more shifters predecessors.

 

You can not make physical changes to cases that are not possible or not ever seen. A shapeshifter, for example, will ever have the purple skin much to strive.

Usually they take their power quite hidden as any indication of this power would be bad for them and take them headlong into the fire.

The shifters are also unable to transform into inanimate objects. When animals made your changes, clothing disappears so you have to be quite careful when they decide to return to its original appearance.
